What are the required database permissions for TX?

Besides read-access on the data source(s), the following role memberships are required for any user deploying and executing timeXtender projects

  • The user needs Administrator rights on Analysis Services.
  • On the msdb database, membership of the db_ssisadmin role (db_dtsadmin on SQL Server 2005).
  • On repository, staging and data warehouse databases, membership of the db_owner role.

Database connections are set up independently, which means that you can mix Windows and SQL authentication as it suits your setup.

    Sure.

    SQLA:

    Datasources - requires db_datareader only

    SQLB:

    Repository + Staging + DW - db_datareader, db_datawriter and db_ddladmin

    msdb - db_ssisadmin

On Analysis Services (only the one that is used for building OLAP databases and cubes) Grant the administrator rights by opening management studio, connecting to the Analysis Services instance that you are going to use, Right click and select Properties, in the security tab add the user that will be used.

Could you clarify how this works with a multi-sql server setup? E.g. SQLA holds the sources and SQLB holds repository, stage & DW. Do you also need admin access to the analysis services on SQLA where the source is?

Is it possible to mix Windows & SQL authentication in this scenario? E.g. you use Windows Authentication (e.g. DOMAIN\TIMEX) for the project repository on SQLB but you only have SQL Access on SQLA (so TIMEX cannot read the sources).

Yes, that is possible. You can specify either windows authentication or a SQL login for each database connection independantly.
