How to set up TimeXtender Desktop on a local Machine

Hi, I have a virtual machine that is currently hosting the ODX service and I would like to get my local machine up and running with TX desktop. I have installed the application but am getting an error that can be found below. I have looked through the documentation regarding this but it seems that the legacy documenation is all I can find with anything relevant. In the screen shots it is asking to review settings in the ODX tab and the Project repository tab which are non existent in the latest TX version I am using. I only see General and Customer editors when looking at Tools>options. ERROR> A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) Details: SQL Server: 'sql-instances-prod.database.windows.net'SQL Error Number: 64

Unable to open project

We are suddenly having issues with opening last saved project in TimeXtender. The error says: An error occurred while fetching data from the database.Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints. Location: Table: SelectionRuleFieldsForeignKeyConstraint DataFields_SelectionRuleFields requires the child key values (5b2c48b9-abad-4a3b-a9b2-002fedfc582a) to exist in the parent table.. We have tried to go back to the project that we saved before the lastest one. We are able to open that it not able to save it. The errror says: An error occurred while saving the project to the database. An error occurred while fetching data from the database.Failed to enable constraints. Missing module in TimeXtender Classic training

In the TimeXtender Classic training, I only see 4 modules, while Peter Jensen (element61) sees 5 modules. See below screenshots. We are wondering why Peter has a module named ‘Business units’ that I don’t see.

Repository cleanup

We're experiencing projects to open very slowly using TX 20.10.38 (we're above version 10000 of the project) Is there an easy way to remove old versions of a project ? We are using multi environment with global databases, and don't want to go through the export, create new repo DB and import hustle.We're also trying to delete the logs, but deleting them from within TX seems to take forever.

Multiple Environment Transfer

Good Day One of our clients who use TimeXtender (20.10.47.64) experiences a Server Memory issue in Production when IT Operations opened the Multiple Environment Transfer Window. IT Operations reported that the window took ages to open but did eventually open. The Network Administrator did then have to hard reboot the server in order to get it to respond. Attached are the messages reported within TimeXtender.

Missing Relationships in Relation Diagrams

Hi, I am currently working in TimeXtender Data Integration (version 6766.1) and would like to view the relationships between my tables. However, when I access the “Relation Diagram,” I do not see any relationships—neither between tables across different data areas (e.g., DSA and MDW) nor between tables with lookup fields. Is there a specific setting I need to enable to view these relationships? The data lineage for specific fields is functioning perfectly.

Is it possible to show the data lineage of a table filled through a Custom Table Insert?

Hi, Is there a way to view the data lineage for tables populated using the Custom Table Insert method? When we select the “Data Lineage” option for a column in a Custom Table Insert table, it only shows the data lineage with that table as the source, rather than displaying the tables used within the Custom Table Insert itself. Continue historization from SCD2 source table

Hi all, our customer has tables that are SCD2 historized with valid_from and valid_to columns and a “version” column, where 1 is the most recent entry, 2 the next older entry and so on. Is there a possibility to load these tables into TimeXtender, preserve the history (make it useable for TimeXtender) and continue historizing in TimeXtender, so that they can turn off the historization in their source table?

Working with multiple environments

I would like to know what the best way of working is if you have multiple environments (DEV, TST, PRD) with the new version. In the old version you had to open a different project repository that you could set a different color, so you were always aware on what you had open. In the new version all the environments are available in the desktop and a mistake is very easily made on what environment you open. Names are also shared between environments so you never know what DSA you have open. Love to hear some comments on how other customers are working.

Hi, Is Acrobat Reader a pre-requisite for ETL Agile scheduler to work? We have a client that has uninstalled Acrobat Reader Pro and now the Excel Macros no longer work. The Acrobat Reader was uninstalled on a client PC/laptop. Thanks & Regards Shahid

Column/field description repository

Hello, TimeXtender 20.10.40.64. In one of our projects we are adding descriptions to every column in a table and we want to be able to get this data querying the database. However, we can’t find a good place in the repository where the description is stored on a column level and how to effectively exctract this data. Looking at the [TxObjectDescriptions] table in the repository there is a column called Description that is a long string. This string includes the description we added to the field, however it also has alot of other data. On top of this, the string seems to have different structures from case to case and I can’t find a good way to always get the value we need. Does anyone have a good way to get this data or knows if there is data saved in another place in a better format? Thank you,Victor

We are in a process of moving from on-prem to AZURE Why do i get this error? How do i solve it? The user svc_timextender is local admin and its alreay running ODX. Why cant i start it for TiimeXtender Server Service?

TimeXtender UI is intermittently slow

Hello there, we’ve been experiencing intermittent slowness in the TimeXtender UI within the past few weeks. Even doing simple things like right clicking on a execution package to view the logs, trying to see the status of an ODX transfer job, etc. will sometimes cause the UI to feel like it’s just not responding (no lotus status UI) for 30 seconds to minutes. This isn’t something that happens all the time and we haven't been able to nail down a root cause. Our VM where the UI is running is rarely over 30% CPU usage and we usually have over 80% memory free. Same goes for the VM that the ODX is running on. How do you even begin to troubleshoot this when the UI is slow to respond? The TimeXtender UI is on version 20.10.38.64. The TimeXtender ODX server is on version 20.10.37 Thanks!

TX Legacy 20.10.xx - Silent activation

Hello, I’ve got a customer who asking me this question related to the activation of TX (v. 20.10) . The TX developers use the TX desktop through a Virtual Desktop interface (VmWare horizon). For any reason the IT department has decided to rebuilt (full reinstall) all VDI servers at least one a week. Despite I provide the activation file (.lic) they didn’t succeed to automate the TX Desktop license activation and ask me if there is another way to activate the software. My answer was that the only way to get this TX desktop unlocking is to migrate to new version with the cloud repo that will unlock the Desktop when opening the project. Could you confirm there is no alternative for the legacy version regarding the activation? Maybe possible to set at least the license key is a config file then pref-filled in Desktop and the TX developers jsut need to press activate (assuming requried ports is open to reach the TX license server.? TempDB is growing rapidly in terms of disk space, how to avoid/troubleshoot this?

Hi community, I have a question about the Temp DB in SQL Server. We have a customer where the TempDB is growing rapidly, the disk is expanded multiple times. Although it is not a problem to expand this disk again for this customer. I want to understand how we can avoid the TempDB growing rapidly? I do not have a DBA background. The TempDB for this customer is 40 GB at the moment. All ‘heavy’ tables are loaded incrementally and batch cleansing is enabled for these tables. I have some questions: I know batch cleansing is preventing the logs will grow rapidly, but does it also have impact on the TempDB? Are there any other table settings in TimeXtender can help reducing the TempDB size? Does the number of threads in a execution package have impact on the TempDB? Are there any best practices in determining the correct/optimal disk size for the TempDB? Are there any troubleshooting ideas/tools for this? Any other suggestions?

Data loss after Deploy And Execute in DSA

Hello to all the community!😃 When I make any change to any table and run deploy and execute, at the end of the procedure, I find he table with very little data compared to what should be present (example out of 90.000 records it loads only 4.100). I tried to check the various settings but I don't see anything wrong, can you give me some advice? TimeXtender vers. 20.10.32.64 Thank you in advance

open a project will result in an "out of bounds index/array" error,

After saving a version of timextender, probably we where two person who incidentally did it at the same time, we run into "out of bounds index/array". Now we can’t open the latest version and when trying to deploy an earlier version we get the “out of bounds index/array” anyway. The environment is all in azure so we have the repository database accessible. Would it be possible to just restore the database to a point in time before we hade the incident. I talked with a colleague and he recommended using this community for advise.

Deployment Error - There is already an object named...

I recently had a project get corrupted, and I had to revert back to a prior version. When I did this, it appears as though some aspect of the metadata got scrambled. When I open the project, all of the tables and other objects show up. But when I go to deploy any table, regardless of red/black state, the database throws an error "There is already an object named <mytable> in the database." It is as though TX is sending a CREATE statement instead of an ALTER. I can manually delete the table(s) and related function to make this error go away for my one table, but I have hundreds of tables, some of which have many months of history. All of my tables show up in the treeview controls, however when I use the SQL Database Cleanup Tool, none are listed in "Current Project Objects". They are all listed in "Unknown Project". Is there any way to recover from this without having to drop all tables and deploy/execute?
