Connect to excel files with Excel online - Authentication failed. Empty OAuth file

Hi,

I am trying to connect to excel files stored in a Microsoft SharePoint. I have followed the guide Connect to Excel files with Excel Online. I have created a Custom OAuth App for Azure Service Principal Authentication and assigned the role Owner to the created OAuth app. I added the Sharepoint URL under MISC and added Azure tenant, OatuhClientID and OAuthClientSecret.  However, when I press the “Authorize OAuth” I get:

Authentication failed. Empty OAuth file.

Details:

Authentication failed. Empty OAuth file.
Module: timeXtender
System.Exception
   at TimeXtender.DataManager.ODXCDataSourceHelper.Authorization(ConnectingThread thread, OperationalDataExchange operationalDataExchange, CDataSourceModel cDataSourceModel)
   at TimeXtender.DataManager.EditDataSourceCommand.<>c__DisplayClass10_0.<Dialog_OnOAuthRequested>b__0()

I'm not sure what I might be overlooking. I've set "Initiate OAuth" to GETANDREFRESH and have tried both CLIENT and CODE for the OAuth grant type. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am on version 6766.1

Thank you, @Christian Hauggaard. I will try this instead. Is this provider more suitable for the newest version of TimeXtender?

@annfoss Yes we recommend using the TimeXtender Excel data source rather than the Cdata Excel data source, and TimeXtender data sources over Cdata data sources in general
