TimeXtender Classic always requires activation, but you can choose whether to activate manually or let Classic pick up activation files automatically from a folder. In both cases, you work with offline activation files that you download from the TimeXtender Portal and apply in Classic.
TimeXtender Classic always checks that an activation file matches the installed version and that the activation period is still valid, no matter which method you choose.
Instructions
Download an activation file from the Portal
To start the activation process, you first download a license activation file for your specific TimeXtender Classic version from the TimeXtender Portal. To download an activation file from the Portal, follow the steps below.
- Log in to the TimeXtender Portal using an account linked to your TimeXtender Classic license.
- Go to Admin > Licenses.
- Read the news and critical communications on the Announcements card.
- On the Activation card for your TimeXtender Classic license, in the Version list, select the TimeXtender Classic version you want to activate, such as 26.1.0.0.
- Select the I have read the announcements checkbox and click Download activation file to generate and download the offline activation file for the selected version.
- Save the activation file. The default filename format is '[Organization] [Version] [Timestamp].lic', for example 'MyCompany 26.1.0.1 2026-05-15T09-30-00.lic'.
- If your TimeXtender Classic machine is not online, copy the activation file to your TimeXtender Classic machine.
Activate manually
Use the manual activation window when you want full control over which activation file you apply, or when you prefer to handle each activation explicitly inside TimeXtender Classic. To activate TimeXtender Classic manually using the activation window, follow the steps below.
- Open TimeXtender Classic on your target machine. If the software is not activated, the Activation window opens automatically. Otherwise, go to Help > Activate... to open the window.
- Click Browse..., locate the license activation file, and then click Activate.
Configure automatic activation via folder
To make activation a bit less cumbersome, especially if you have multiple environments running, we’ve implemented a automated activation option.
If there are less than 31 days until activation is due, TimeXtender Classic scans a folder for activation files on startup and automatically activates if a file is found that matches your installed version and has an expiration date later than the current expiration date and at least 15 days in the future.
To configure the activation file path, follow the steps below.
- Open TimeXtender Classic and go to Tools > Options.
- In the Behavior section, in the Look for activation file in box, enter the folder that TimeXtender Classic should search for activation files in. The default is your Downloads folder, but any shared folder reachable by all your TimeXtender Classic installations is recommended.
- Click OK.
If there are less than 31 days until activation is due, TimeXtender Classic scans the folder for activation files on startup and selects a file that matches your installed version and has an expiration date later than the current expiration date and at least 15 days in the future.
Renew activation on a recurring basis
You need to renew activation every 180 days so TimeXtender Classic continues to run without interruption. Use the automatic activation feature for the most straightforward flow by following the steps below.
- Set a recurring reminder in your calendar every 140 days.
- When the reminder is triggered, repeat the steps under Download an activation file from the Portal.
- Copy the downloaded file to your activation folder so TimeXtender Classic can apply it automatically when it starts.
