Hey, we are currently developing BI reports for our clients. We are working with DEV, TST and PROD versions of the dashboards. In TX I’m developing in our DEV data area. Once these developments are stable and approved we want to duplicate this data area to our TST data area. That way we can have a stable TST layer and continue new developments on the DEV layer again. To request is basically to be able to duplicate a data area into new or existing data area.

Hi,

are you wanting to have multiple DTAP phasings inside one DWH Instance? Or put another way: why does the copy-to-instance functionality not work for this?

@rory.smith Hey! Instead of copy-to-instance, I want, copy-data-area. As I understand it, another instance requires another database on your server and another MDW instance on the tx portal right? Please correct me if I’m wrong :)

Hi,

you are half-right :-)

You can point your other instance to the same database and use schema's to keep things separate. Data Areas are basically just that: automated schema's. You will indeed need a separate instance.

I am not sure what the benefit of DTAP Data Areas inside DTAP-ed Instances would be. It just adds another multiplier to the chain of <DTAP phases for source systems> → <DTAP phases ODX> → <DTAP phases DWH <DTAP phases Data Area> > → <DTAP phases SSL> .
