When using the Business Units, the option ‘Find unused fields’ was available. This was very handy and enables you to only load data that is used in the data warehouse layer(s).

This option disappeared since the introduction of the ODX Server. In the ODX Server (version 20.10.x) it is very cumbersome to only load columns that are used (luckily in V6XXX it is improved). That's why I most of the time select all columns in the tables in the ODX Server.

If the ‘find unused fields’ option is reintroduced that analyzes columns loaded in the ODX Server and columns that are mapped to the MDW, it makes it easy to identify what is used and what is not used.

This will only work efficiently if there is a way to automatically select/deselect columns in the ODX server based on the ‘find unused fields’ analysis.

Great suggestion @bas.hopstaken .

Sure it is fun to Imnom-esque load all the colomns in the tables or even all the tables from the souce. But this can greatly impact the performance on the extraction side of your DWH. For instance: Loading data from the Sales lines table from Miscrosoft AX: 298 columns in that table and we're using about 30.
but setting up which columns to pick by hand is a lot of work.

I would like to add that the old selecting with selection boxes should and could live next to the rule based way. And bringing back the ‘Find unused fields’would top it off completely.
