The limit of 15 characters for the name on data sources and database objects needs to be increased.

Agree! 15 characters leads to abbreviations that are often hard to decipher

I recall some discussions about this for some years ago and I think we ended up sticking with 15 because of the fact that we concatenate the names to form new names for different objects related to it. To ensure that we do not end up violating the SQL Server max length for these objects (128 chars), we decided to limit the individual items.

@andri ,

I’ve created a idea for this a while ago:

In TimeXtender Data Integrator (V6XXX), it is possible to have both a short name and a display name for data sources in the ODX/Ingest instance.

It would be great to have this functionality for Business Units in TimeXtender Classic (V20.10.x) as well. I understand that expanding the short name to more than 15 characters may not be preferable because the DW_SourceCode is stored in every table, which would significantly increase data storage requirements.

However, the 15-character limit often requires a lot of creativity when naming data sources. Having the ability to set both a display name and a short name with a maximum of 15 characters would be a great improvement.
