In the TimeXtender portal, you can currently assign users access to Ingest, Prepare and Deliver instances (without giving them a ‘role’ in the portal). For Ingest instances, this means that a user can use all data sources attached to this instance. However, this does not allow them to adjust those data sources (e.g. add an endpoint to a REST data source). In my opinion, three features should be added to extend the way we give users access in the portal:

  1. Access on data source level, as mentioned above. Would be nice to see this being automatically inherited if we give a user access to an Ingest instance.
  2. In order to make this all easier, we want to work with user groups instead of having to open up each instance/data source:
  3. Lastly, I believe it is important that people with access to an Ingest instance should be able to create new data sources and attach them to the instances they have access to. This is only possible through the ‘Data Estate Admin’ role at the moment:

Hi @KajEmergo

As I understand it, the roles were not made as an option for using the portal and then limiting access there, it was only for using Instances in TDI. The Data Estate Admin is the one to create data sources, instances and mapping the data sources to them.

This was because some of our customers requested that the developers using data sources were not able to see and use all of those available, they would be given access based on what they were allowed to see.

With the new REST TX data source types a lot of setup is now done in the portal so I can see changes to this being needed, but the above still is the reason for the way it works.
