TimeXtender and Iceberg Parquet Files

Hi TimeXtender Community

I’m exploring how TimeXtender integrates with Microsoft Fabric, specifically OneLake, for a project we’re planning. We’re looking at using Apache Iceberg as a table format for datasets stored in OneLake, with data in Parquet format. I’d like to understand if TimeXtender currently supports native read and write operations for Iceberg Parquet datasets in this environment. If this isn’t supported yet, are there plans to add native Iceberg support in future releases, and if so, is there a timeline for when this might be available?

Any insights into how TimeXtender handles Iceberg datasets, or workarounds for integrating with them in Fabric, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Fabric itself currently has preview support for shortcuts to Iceberg Parquet data and the option to write from Snowflake to OneLake. This cooperation was part of the keynote at Fabcon 25. Whether Fabric's native way of storing data in parquet is “better” than a specific Iceberg implementation very much depends on context.

It may be that the support will deepen over time as Microsoft and Snowflake cooperate more fully, but if you are completely working inside the confines of Fabric I suspect you will need to wait a while for full Iceberg support there. Maybe understanding what you are envisioning would make it more clear?
