How to add a Private Data Source

Forum|alt.badge.img

If you need to use a specific data source provider to connect to a special data source, or have created your own provider based on the TimeXtender Open Interface specification, open your Ingest instance by double-clicking on the instance in TimeXtender Data Integration and then go to Tools > Add Private Data Source to open the the wizard to create a private data source that you can use when you add data sources in the TimeXtender Portal.

Note: TimeXtender still recommends that you use the providers included with TimeXtender whenever possible to avoid issues with outdated and incompatible providers.

The wizard will extract the required connection information from the provider files and store it as a data source template in the Portal. The data source templates you add will be available for use in your organization only. No provider files are uploaded and you must ensure that the provider is installed on all of the Ingest Instance servers that will use it.

In the wizard, begin by selecting the technology that matches the type of data source provider to be added.

When selecting the first option of ADO.NET, the next dialog will present the list of ADO.NET providers that are installed on the system. Select the desired data source provider and click Next.

Click Finish on the confirmation screen to add the new provider to the TimeXtender Portal.

The Process for an OLE DB data provider is similar to the above.

When selecting selecting the OLE DB data source provider, the next dialog shows the list of the OLE DB providers installed on the system. Select the appropriate OLE DB provider and the click Next. On the confirmation screen, click Finish to add the OLE DB data source provider to the TimeXtender Portal.

The process for adding a TimeXtender Open Interface data source provider is slightly different from the first two options.

The next screen prompts the user to browse out fo the DLL that will be installed on the Ingest Instance system.

After completing the wizard, the TimeXtender Open Interface data source provider will be available in the TimeXtender Portal when creating a new data source connection.
