No perspectives when deploying tabular model

Dear @RLB ,

To my knowledge a perspective is a TimeXtender funtionality. When creating a perspective this contains the whole SSAS cube and not parts of it. Having a perspective in your Semantic layer will not be transferred to the SSAS Cube.

What do you need the perspective in the cube for? I believe if you need to create subgroups within you SSAS Cube you can use the Display folders.

Thanks for your reply. I’m referring to cube perspectives as mentioned here:

The goal is to have only one semantic model (instead of serveral, which has its own problems like having to create several versions of the same objects like time dimensions) and to define subsets of the model to be used by end users.

I don't think that can be accomplished by using display folders, but I will look into that.

Check! I see now. Have not used that feature yet. The display folders will not do what you want.
If the cube perspectives do not work, wait for @Thomas Lind or @Christian Hauggaard to reply.

The thing is, I've been using cube perspecitves in the SSAS multi dimensional model for twenty years and it's somehting I'm not preparted to give up… yet :)

A SSL perspective is not a Tabular model perspective. TimeXtender allows you to have very large models which you can then organize using TX SSL Perspectives, but this is only used in the TimeXtender context.

(Azure) Analysis Services and Power BI Premium Capacity also have their own perspectives (see: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/analysis-services/tabular-models/perspectives-ssas-tabular?view=asallproducts-allversions) which also allow for deeper technical possibilities, but you cannot generate those from TimeXtender

I'm confused, because @Christian Hauggaard seems to say otherwise:

Except he's using the new version of TimeXtender.

Isn't he using SSAS Multidimensional (OLAP) as opposed to Tabular (SSAS / AAS)? If you are using AAS you only have access to Tabular. If you want Multidimensional you need a VM-based SQL Server with SSAS.

For the partial reload part there are (old) Ideas which could be upvoted. This idea also contains some Powershell options if you are using PBI Premium Capacity:

I believe that there is a difference between the Multidimension SSAS and the Tabular SSAS and that might be why the Perspective is not working?

I’m not sure. It says Note: Perspectives apply to Tabular endpoints only right at the top of the page. And I don't think a Multidimensional endpoint even exists? In my opinion I’m just trying to accomplish something that is basic AAS functionality.

Also, why is the Manage Perspectives window even there if it cannot actually be used?

That is true, but SSAS Multidimensional is used differently in TimeXtender. It is part of the semantic layer, but it's not used as an endpoint connected to a semantic model. It's a separate thing.

Please be aware that upgrading from Basic Pricing Tier to Standard is a one-way action. This can not be changed back to Basic.

Thanks @bas.hopstaken! I can't believe I wasn't able to figure that out myself! You're right, we're on the B2 tier.

Also some of the other answers were a bit confusing to be honest ;)
